Amy, Sorry I missed the movie showing last week.  Just too much else happening. I heard it was well received.  Charlie

Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School is relatively new.  I don't know to much about the school itself, although I'm familiar with Montessori education.  The school was just the site of the conference. The buzz was the energy of the people as they left, people were brainstorming ways to apply new ideas.  One group is organizing a Baltimore family nature 'club'. We're refining a Greater Baltimore Children and Nature Collaborative to help coordinate and deliver nature experiences for children.http://www.gbcan.org/ I've been working on a process to cultivate nature mentors for all place-based organizations so that children in neighborhoods are within walking distance of someone who can reinforce their naturalist identity; and so that place knowledge can more quickly be recovered in communities where it is lost. Our Meetup group site is part of that process

Have fun at the mentoring conference, it sounds like one great time.  I’d be interested to know how you are doing with your program, particularly with the current economy. Contact us or join us on a Meetup activity.

Amy, the conference last Saturday was great.  Over 200 people at the Baltimore Montessouri Public Charter School.  I gave a presentation on the importance of place-knowledge for nature mentors and my wife gave a workshop on the role of story in mentoring children.  Quite a bit of buzz at the end of the conference. I haven't seen the full final documentary, but I did see a draft last November.

Hi Amy,

We met at 512 Aloha. We were both part of the Community Design Strand Group. Thanks so much for sending so many people from you school to the AOMs out here. We had a blast recently with Randi, Carla, Faye, and Natalie. They all did great! Though I think the lack of showers due to water issues on our land pushed their edges quite a bit...

Anyway, thanks again.
Nate

I'm north of Baltimore, in Luthervillle. But I'll be botanizing over at Great Falls this summer for work.

A group of colleages are establishing the Maryland Naturalist Center in the suburbs of Baltimore through the Natural History Society of Maryland and eventually will be offering technical support and programs for persons interested in improving their knowledge about nature in the places where they live (their backyards and local parks).

You can follow our progress at www.marylandnature.org or on Facebook at http://tinyurl.com/p9buh8 Please consider supporting the project by joining The Natural History Society of Maryland and participating with your ideas.

If you have plant questions you can post them to the Plant Identification discussion at the Plant Uses Tribe. Or stop by my Camp and see what others have been posting to me.

I haven't been to the Mid-Atlantic gathering, but sometimes attend the Primitive Technology Day usually hed at Oregon Ridge Park in Baltimore County.
